Converting Your Masonry Wood Fireplace to a Gas Insert: What to Expect

 

Upgrading a traditional masonry wood-burning fireplace to a gas insert is an excellent way to enjoy greater comfort, efficiency, and convenience while maintaining the beauty of your existing fireplace. Here’s what you can expect throughout the process.

 

Your journey begins with a visit to our showroom, where you can explore a variety of gas inserts, view different styles and finishes, and speak with a fireplace expert about your heating goals, design preferences, and budget.

 

Next, we’ll schedule an in-home assessment. During this visit, a technician will evaluate your existing fireplace and chimney, take measurements, and determine the best insert options for your home. We’ll also discuss any installation requirements, such as gas or electrical access.

 

Once the assessment is complete, you’ll return to finalize your selections. This is when you’ll choose your decorative front, surround, decorative media, remote control options, along with other additional accessories. After everything is selected, we’ll place your order and coordinate the installation schedule.

 

Before installation, a Level 2 chimney inspection is performed. This in-depth inspection evaluates the condition of the chimney and flue(s) to ensure they are structurally sound and suitable for a gas insert installation. Any issues identified can be addressed before work begins. The installation process includes placing a new venting system inside the existing chimney to safely exhaust combustion gases and bring fresh air into the insert.

Your Plumber can now run the gas line and your electrician can bring an electrical outlet into the firebox. We suggest CRN Plumbing as they can take care of both electric and plumbing at once, but you are free to use your own plumber and electrician as well.

 

Once everything is prepared, our in-house certified installers will complete the final installation of your gas insert. After the insert is connected to the liners the plumbing inspector will sign off on the project.

 

Now we’re ready for the final light-off where we make sure the unit is functioning properly and ensure all parts are installed correctly. During this visit, we’ll walk you through every feature of your gas insert, including the remote control, thermostat settings, lighting procedures, maintenance recommendations, and answer any questions you may have. Our goal is to ensure you feel completely comfortable operating and enjoying your new fireplace for years to come.
